Bake Through the Bible at Christmas

Starting on Fri 13th Nov we will be releasing 6 weekly video sessions for you and your family to explore the Christmas story with us, and to have some fun making delicious food!

Based on the brilliant “Bake through the Bible at Christmas” book (Susie Bentley-Taylor & bekah Moore), we will start in the old testament to see how God planned to send His Son, Jesus, into the world and what happened when He arrived. We’ll be baking, doing a little bit of singing and other fun stuff like memory verses!

Episode 1 – Spiced Star Biscuits

Ingredients List: 150g plain flour, 50g dark brown sugar, 50g soft butter, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, pinch of ground cloves (we didn’t use this as we didn’t have any!), salt & pepper, 2 tbsp honey, 1 egg, 12 boiled sweets/hard candy (we used smashed up lollies as our local shop didn’t have boiled sweets)
Extra equipment : Star cutter (or other shape if you don’t have a star)Bottle top to cut out the centre of your stars

Episode 2 – Gingerbread Family Tree

Ingredients: 350g Plain Flour, 2 tsp ground ginger, 1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda,
100g Butter, 175g Soft Light Brown Sugar, 1 egg, 4 tbsp golden syrup
Icing pens & Small sweets for decorating (eg smarties)
Extra Equipment: Gingerbread people cutters!

Gas Mark 4/180⁰C for 10-12 minutes

Episode 3 – Cranberry Angel Cakes

Ingredients: 50g butter, 225ml milk, 300g plain flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 1tsp mixed spice, 150g sugar, 100g dried cranberries, 1 egg
Icing: 100g butter, 200g icing sugar, ½ tsp vanilla essence, white chocolate buttons, sprinkles

Gas Mark 6/200⁰C for 15 minutes

Episode 4 – Tear and Share Bread

Ingredients: You can use a bread mix if you prefer – they’re often next to the flour in the supermarket. Or to make the bread you will need to follow a basic bread recipe (there’s often one on the flour packet or the yeast packet)and you’ll need strong white bread flour, water, yeast, salt, and sugar.

For the filling: 1 tbsp butter, 1 clove of garlic, 2 tbsp grated cheese.

Episode 5 – Egyptian Tomato Soup

Ingredients: 1 tbsp oil, 1 onion, 1 clove of garlic, 100g jar of red/bell peppers (we often just use fresh), 1 tin chopped tomatoes, 450ml stock, 1/4 tsp paprika, 1/4 tsp chili powder, 1 lime quartered to serve

Episode 6 – Chocolate Truffles

Ingredients: 150ml double cream, 150g plain chocolate, desiccated coconut to coat (alternatives could be cocoa or icing sugar)
